NJ River Bridge

Newark, New Jersey

Challenges:

A foundation contractor had contacted us concerning a project that was scheduled. after reviewing the geotechnical reports, the entire shafted showed to be gravel. As such foundation slurry was the recommended way to proceed for cost efficiency. They had originally planned to drill the holes dry, but encountered more groundwater then expected along the banks of the Passiac River. Shafts were 5 feet in diameter and 78 to 95 feet deep.

Solutions:

  • Built slurry program based on the known geology.
  • Setup slurry bubbler system to obtain maximum yield and higher viscosity from the slurry product.
  • Got project going despite tight working conditions, was completing 1 shaft per day.
